Let's Talk About Bad Guy Billie Eilish

“I’m the type of person if you tell me to stop doing something, I’m going to do the opposite,”.

At just seventeen, Billie Eilish has become an unstoppable force, quickly rising to fame when her first song "Ocean Eyes" went viral - Eilish was only thirteen when she co-wrote the song with her brother FINNEAS and she currently has over 27 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The blue-haired teen has since released a handful of hits, resonating with our inner angst. Eilish conjures feelings of apathy and melancholy, blending dark and sweet undertones through the use of hushed tones and menacing beats.

A larger part of Billie's charm is her persona. Her unrestrictive approach allows her to experiment with her music, mixing genres of alternative-pop, emo, electro and rap. In addition to this, her anti-fashion attitude challenges old Millennial pop-culture norms, loudly stating what a teenage pop-star of this generation could be. Billie redefines these circumstances by power-dressing, owning her body by donning baggy silhouettes, layered jackets and tracksuits to protect herself from being objectified under the public eye. In a new ad for Calvin Klein, she explains "I never want the world to know everything about me," she says. "I mean that's why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven't seen what's underneath. Nobody can be like, 'Oh, she's slim-thick, she's not slim-thick, she's got a flat ass, she's got a fat ass.' No one can say any of that because they don't know."

With the success of her debut EP, 'dont smile at me' in 2017, that contained hit singles like ‘bellyache’, ‘ocean eyes’ and ‘idontwannabeyouanymore’, Billie's long-awaited album 'WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?' perfectly defines our summer playlist of 2019.
