The new CLOT x NIKE “WHAT THE? CLOT” DUNK continues the brand’s 20th anniversary celebration and commemorates its long-standing partnership with Nike. Pulling elements from 17 past iconic sneaker releases, the “WHAT THE? CLOT” stands as a stunning tribute to all that CLOT and Nike have achieved together throughout the years. 2006 CLOT x NIKE AIR MAX 1 "KISS OF DEATH"
Starting all the way back in 2006, the first sneaker to be included in “WHAT THE? CLOT” was the iconic CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death”—the first collaboration between CLOT and Nike. Inspired by traditional Chinese medicine foot reflexology, this highly sought-after sneaker featured unique materials such as ostrich leather and snakeskin.
2007 CLOT X NIKE AIR ZOOM DUNKESTO "ACU"
The CLOT x Nike Air Zoom Dunkesto "ACU" was launched as a limited release to mark the opening of CLOT’s Shanghai sneaker store, ACU. This Dunk and Presto hybrid was designed in a rasta colorway featuring hemp, crocodile skin and leather.
2009 CLOT X NIKE AIR FORCE 1 “1WORLD”
Being the first CLOT x Nike sneaker to feature CLOT’s recognisable Silk pattern, the CLOT x Nike "1World" Air Force 1 was released in 2009 to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Beneath the red Silk upper was a second layer of laser-embossed leather in the same pattern as well as an exposed air unit at the heel.
2012 CLOT X NIKE TENNIS CLASSIC AC "TZ MUSEUM"
Edison Chen’s take on the Nike Tennis Classic, dubbed the “Museum”, featured a metallic silver leather upper, a frayed swoosh and distressed detailing. Each Pair was also hand-buffed to create its own unique worn-in look. Included with each pair was a sheet of sandpaper, encouraging wearers to further customise the shoe.
2012 CLOT X NIKE TENNIS CLASSIC AC
The 2012 Tennis Classic Suede was a re-imagination of the classic silhouette using suede leather and CLOT’s classic red on the Swoosh and heel. In addition, the heel featured branding from both CLOT and Nike, rounding up this timeless classic.
2015 CLOT X NIKE LUNAR FORCE 1 FUSE SP "10TH ANNIVERSARY"
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, CLOT and Nike dropped the Lunar Force 1 “Alumni”. This celebratory sneaker brought back fan favorite designs such as the mismatched red and blue jewel swooshes. It also implemented Nike’s Hyperfuse technology for a modernized take on a classic silhouette.
2018 CLOT X NIKE "SILK" AIR FORCE 1
Following the success of "1World" , CLOT and Nike reintroduced the unique, Silk tear-away material in a triple white colorway. This Silk Air Force 1 was themed around luck, happiness and prosperity. Hidden underneath the CLOT Silk Royale-patterned upper was a hidden layer in white leather, featuring the same pattern in gold.
2018 CLOT X NIKE AIR JORDAN 13 LOW “TERRACOTTA BLUSH”
Taking inspiration from China's legendary Terracotta Warriors, CLOT designed the Nike Air Jordan 13 “Terracotta Blush”. This sneaker featured premium suede, embossed and stitched to resemble the look of Terracotta Warrior armor plates. Also included in the design were CLOT and Jordan logos in metallic gold, representing power and royalty.
2019 CLOT X NIKE AIR FORCE 1 “ROYALE UNIVERSITY BLUE SILK”
The next rendition of the CLOT x Nike Silk Air Force 1 came in a “Royale University Blue” colorway. Under this version of the “Silk Royale” AF 1 was a gray and gold patterned leather upper. As part of the promotional campaign for this sneaker, CLOT teamed up with renowned actor Donnie Yen for a memorable, flashy Wing Chun video.
2019 CLOT X FRAGMENT DESIGN X NIKE AIR FORCE 1 “BLACK SILK”
The CLOT x Fragment Design x Nike Air Force 1 "Black Silk" was the 4th rendition of the Silk Air Force 1’s. This time, featuring additional design tropes from Hiroshi Fujwara’s fragment design. In addition to the CLOT branding, the sneaker also included the recognisable fragment double lightning bolt logo. Underneath this black pair was a layer of patterned red leather, once again featuring the double lighting bolt design.
2020 CLOT X NIKE AIR FORCE 1 “ROSE GOLD SILK”
The most recent addition to the Silk Royale Air Force 1 series came in the form of the “Rose Gold Silk” colorway. This particular colorway aimed to represent the fluidity and movement of a multidisciplinary martial artist with an understanding of inner peace. Underneath this rose pair was a patterned leather material, also in rose gold.
2021 CLOT X NIKE AIR JORDAN 14 LOW “TERRACOTTA"
Following up from the Air Jordan 13, CLOT continued its Terracotta Warrior-inspired designs with the CLOT x Nike Air Jordan 14 Low "Terracotta". Implementing a similar colorway with a dominantly beige colorblock design, this 14 Low features stitched details on its lateral and medial that micmic Terracotta armors. The midsole of the sneaker was also textured to achieve the look and feel of aged clay, reminiscent of Terracotta Warriors.
2021 CLOT X NIKE AIR MAX 1 ”KISS OF DEATH”
In 2021, CLOT and Nike re-released an updated version of the 2006 “Kiss of Death” Air Max 1 for “Airmax Day”. This iconic pair included updates such as perforations to the clear toe box, reflective red accents, and updated graphics on the insoles and outsole.
2021 CLOT X NIKE AIR MAX 1 "KISS OF DEATH" - SOLAR RED
Inspired by the ever elusive “K.O.D” made for and worn by Kanye West during the Hong Kong stop of his Touch The Sky tour, the “Kiss of Death” Air Max 1 - Solar Red completed the trifecta of “K.O.D” colorways. The hype of the original was demonstrated after Nike had to remove the color combination from NikeiD to stop fans from creating lookalikes.
2021 CLOT X SACAI X NIKE LDWAFFLE "ORANGE"
CLOT teamed up with sacai and Nike for two new colorways of the LDWaffle. The first of which is a “Net Orange” colorway inspired by the OG CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death”. This sneaker combined the same hues of red and orange from the original, with a similar translucent toe box which made the Air Max 1 unique.
2021 CLOT X SACAI X NIKE LDWAFFLE "GREY"
The second of the two CLOT x sacai x Nike LDWaffles came in the form of a “grey” colorway inspired by the 2013 “Kiss of Death” Air Max 1 SP Hyperfuse Edition. Other than a color-blocking palette that includes obsidian grey, green and navy blue, the shoe also featured with speckled midsole reminiscent of its inspiration.
2022 CLOT X NIKE FLUX DUNK
Born from Edison Chen’s fascination for lenticular print, the Flux Dunk attempted to bring back the wow factor of sneakers to the modern era. Through the use of lenticular material, the upper appeared in different shades with angle and lighting, embedding the ideologies of yin-yang, fluidity, and harmony.
