THE EVOLUTION OF CLOT x NIKE
CLOT’s position as Hong Kong’s OG streetwear label has transformed over the years, spanning its success in representing the latest in contemporary style in China, Asia and the rest of the world. While our JUICE stores are now located in multiple locations, carrying the CLOT collections and select international brands, the justification of our brand’s notoriety really took hold with CLOT’s creative relationship with Nike. Our endless mission in bridging the East and West was propelled further with exclusive Nike collaborations that sneaker heads around the world loved and still long for. To celebrate this testament and the upcoming CLOT x Nike Air VaporMax that’s hitting stores soon, we want to share our past sneaker collaborations we’ve had with Nike.
The first collaboration with Nike was our CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death” which remains as one of the most sought after Air Max 1’s to date. The shoe was made with Ostrich leather, Suede, and Snakeskin while the insole depicts the foot’s pressure points mapped out on a grid like pattern and was the 3rd pair in Nike’s history to feature any see-through element. The sneakers fit in a fold out box with ribbon and ties, including anatomical arch supports and a unique booklet. A collaboration should tell a story - and this one does that better than most.
The CLOT x ACU x Nike Footscape Woven is designed to commemorate the launch of CLOT’s sneaker boutique ACU. Featuring a hemp upper in a natural tone, and Rasta coloured red, green and yellow knitted sides it was a style that caught a lot of attention. Originally only 24 pairs worldwide, the shoe later dropped in very limited numbers.
CLOT x ACU x NIKE Dunkesto was a special edition made for the opening of CLOT’s Shanghai sneaker boutique, ACU. The Dunk SB Presto hybrid is made from hemp, crocodile skin, and leather material in a red, yellow, green Rasta colour way; sporting the popular presto plastic panel on the side.
The CLOT X Nike Air Max 1 ‘Kiss of Death’ FF (AKA CLOT X Kanye Air Max 1) was designed only for Edison Chen and Kanye West during his ‘Touch the Sky’ tour in 2007. Bright pinks, infrared, and charcoal colour tones align to create the perfect East meets West combo. Only four pairs were made for Kanye and Edison.
“We need to remember to never judge simply by what you see” is the philosophy that the CLOT design team explored by going beyond the superficial and finding deeper meaning. This was represented in the critically acclaimed CLOT X Nike 1World Air Force 1 that celebrated the Lunar New Year. The sneaker featured CLOT’s signature traditional Chinese patterned silk, and a second layer of laser printed embossed leather in the same silk pattern, representing the traditional themes of luck, happiness and prosperity.
Released in 2010, the CLOT x Nike Air Max Classic BW came in a range of colours. Featuring laser engraved CLOT logos on the side-panels, these are as limited as they are iconic with only 6 pairs made in each of the 5 colour ways. So rare.
The Nike Tennis Classic is synonymous to the the brand’s cultural heritage, a silhouette that is simple, understated and vintage. This collaboration with Nike was dubbed the ‘Museum’, using metallic silver on the upper part along with the signature CLOT red on the stitching. Each pair is hand-buffed to create the worn-in effect which makes them essentially one of a kind.
This reinterpreted Nike Tennis Classic Suede style is created with suede leather for the upper while using CLOT's classic red colour for the Nike swoosh on the sides. The back of the shoe features branding from CLOT and Nike on each side. This classic silhouette was finished with a textured rubber outsole and white laces.
The Nike Air Max 1 CLOT SP was released in 2013 drawing Asian inspirations as a stylistic nod to the original ‘Kiss of Death’ style from 2006. Focusing on material and design to express, with a new Hyperfuse mesh toe box, marked point and sock liners revealed the meridian map of the lower limb. The Nike Air Max 1 Clot shoe features the CLOT and Nike logo between long braids and came in a traditional box symbolic of Chinese history.
We teamed up with Nike to create a special edition of the Nike Lunar Force 1. Named alumni for making it past the first decade, it features a special Hyperfuse upper with the classic jewelled red and blue swooshes.
