Edison Chen to Install 3-eyed Mickey artwork at UCCA's "Mickey: The True Original & Ever Curious" Exhibition in Shanghai

The  "Mickey: The True Original & Ever Curious" Exhibition continues its world tour, heading to the Shanghai YUZ museum on the June 12, 2021. The highly immersive exhibition is co-sponsored by Disney and UCCA (Center for Contemporary Art) and is here to start the dialogue in China on Mickey's impact on global artists today.

In celebration of the true original, the UCCA and Disney invited 50 contemporary artists, including 20 of China's most prominent creatives to showcase their artistic interpretation of the iconic mouse. The exhibition is set to explore Mickey Mouse's prevalence in different cultures and how the childhood connections have influenced the modern-day artist and their work.

This year, creative agency 3125c and CLOT have collaborated on a range of 3-Eyed Mickey designs, ranging from Long Sleeve T-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, t-shirts, hoodies, phone cases and figurines. The 3-Eyed Mickey design has played a significant part in CLOT's journey with Disney, Edison Chen, CLOT Co-founder and Creative Director reveals its origins:

"As a person, I have always been fascinated with alien life and extra-territorialism. Randomly, as I was working on a project for Disney a long time ago, I was doing research and I came across an alien Mickey. It was in Chicken Little, and it appeared for just a few seconds. It deeply inspired me in many different ways, because it was something that I had never seen before, and I thought would never exist, but here I am, working with it, and that sounds kind of alien to me”.

CLOT's prolific relationship with Disney spanned a multitude of large projects and collaborations. The 3-Eyed Mickey craze began in 2011, when it made its first appearance at Taipei Toy Festival. CLOT, Disney and vinyl toy creators, MINDstyle collaborated on 3-Eyed Mickey figurines that were available in two colorways. Later that year, the 3-Eyed Mickey design in a grey iteration was part of one of CLOT's biggest projects with Disney. CLOT headed a charity project named "Travelling Mickey" which united the global community by tapping 10 famous artists on their artistic rendition of Mickey Mouse figurines — André, Makoto Azuma, Carri Munden of Cassette Playa, CLOT, Dr. Romanelli, Eric So, Jakuan, Motonori Masui, Madsaki and Mister Cartoon to name a few. The large-scale figurines toured Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taipei with 50% of the sales for each auctioned figure to be donated to the China Youth Development Foundation for social welfare and education.

CLOT continued to celebrate their favorite 3-Eyed Mickey design, birthing one of the most iconic CLOT BE@RBRICK of all time. The collaboration with Medicom Toy and Disney in December, 2011 remains one of the most highly-sought after CLOT x Medicom Toy x Disney collectables to date and was later released in 1000% sizing in the following year. Additionally, it was the last opportunity for fans to get a hold of the 3-Eyed Mickey designs until now.

Edison Chen has designed a 3-Eyed Mickey sculpture, named “THREE’s COMPANY”. The collaborative art piece will be showcased at the "Mickey: The True Original & Ever Curious" Exhibition in Shanghai along with limited-edition merchandise like the exclusive CLOT x @3125c "3-Eyed Mickey" T-shirt will be available for purchase on-site.
