CLOT's Unique Take on Iconic Pieces - Drop 4 of "Corporate Climbing"
The comprehension of the positive and negative connotations that come with the phrase “Corporate Climbing” is key to understanding CLOT’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection. The brand’s creative director Edison Chen sought to use a tongue-in-cheek perspective at these juxtaposing connotations of what is meant by “Corporate Climbing”.
The brand’s “Corporate Climbing” Drop 4 is the beginning of the collection’s more higher-end pieces. Consisting of the Cord Hoodie in Black, Navy, and Grey, the Reversible Button Up Cardigan in Olive and the MA-1 in Black and Green. The Cord Hoodie is a unique piece that utilises multiple string cords that go across the body from both sides, creating an ‘x’ shape along the piece’s torso, representing the constraints that is placed when attempting to “climb the corporate ladder”.
The Reversible Button Cardigan has the brand’s logo, name and “Corporate Climbing” placed on a white fabric patches then stitched on the back of the piece. The outside of the garment utilises an olive green colour whilst the inside is a more contrasting orange which calls attention to the juxtaposing connotations of “climbing the corporate ladder”. The most notable piece in this drop is the MA-1 which is the brand’s unique take on the iconic bomber jacket utilising a soft wool-like fabric on the outside. The Japanese influence can clearly be seen in these pieces due to the unique takes on iconic pieces by CLOT’s creative director Edison Chen.
