CLOT and Levi’s® present denim collection celebrating the Year of the Tiger
Keeping in line with CLOT’s East-meets-West philosophy, the brand is introducing a new collaboration with American label Levi’s®, featuring a design themed around the Chinese zodiac sign of the Tiger.
Tiger is a symbol of power and bravery. To welcome the 2022 Year of the Tiger and all the good that it represents, CLOT and Levi’s® have teamed up to present a collaborative collection that brings together Levi’s® iconic denims and CLOT’s signature Chinese-inspired designs, highlighted by an all-over tiger stripe pattern.
“We wanted to create something that was culturally relevant to Chinese culture, being able to do something around Chinese New Year, we delved into looking at what the year meant,” shared CLOT Founder and Creative Director, Edison Chen. “Designing a woman’s only side of this collab was very interesting for me, because to do woman’s stuff you can go there a little bit more,” he added.
The CLOT x Levi’s® denim collection includes two Type II Trucker jackets for men and women—the slightly cropped female version comes with Chinese button knots, which is a CLOT signature—a pair of 551z cropped jeans for men in a relaxed fit, and a high-waisted midi skirt for the ladies with a back slit. All pieces in the collection come with specially designed co-branded shank buttons, double-layered patches as well as a silk back patch adorned with CLOT’s emblematic Silk Royale pattern. A tribute to Levi’s® DIY spirit celebrating both personality and sustainability, the designs are highly versatile, and intended to be mix-and-match or customized. The jackets, for example, can be worn as unisex pieces, whereas the midi skirt can be scissored down into shorter lengths.
“Instead of making a short skirt we wanted to make a longer version of it. DIY is a huge component to fashion nowadays, and being able to start long and go short is something I thought was more interesting. People buy vintage denim all day, but it’s about how you keep your piece fresh with yourself.” said Chen.
To visually highlight the core elements of this collaboration—which is denim and tiger–campaign images for the CLOT x Levi’s® collection were captured, by prolific photographer Kenneth Cappello, in a monochromatic set featuring a diverse cast of models in the tiger camo-clad range against a denim patchwork backdrop. The fabric collage not only beautifully accentuates the animal print, but also serves as a homage to the wide denim offerings at Levi’s® and its love of personal customizations.
