A prized symbol of China, jade is not only praised for its representation of beauty, protection, power, eternity, but also for its artistry. Due to its hardness, jade stones are abraded, rather than carved, and the technique takes a lifetime to master. The resilience and passion required to achieve such an art form are not unlike the qualities we’ve all seen in Michael Jordan, whose indomitable will and grace are continually praised as the G.O.A.T who played basketball like art in its highest form. In tribute to the two profound symbols of attaining mastery through unwavering perseverance, the brand introduces the new CLOT x AIR JORDAN “JADE 5 LOW”, propelling the treasured value into the future.

Launching in textures and colors reminiscent of Chinese jade ornaments adorning traditional attires in the olden days, the new CLOT x AIR JORDAN “JADE 5 LOW” debuts in a special black satin upper, reflective tongue, with jade-inspired details running throughout the design. Highlighting the translucent beauty of jade, signature Air Jordan 5 features from the netting to the lace lock and the sheer rubber outsole now appear in jade tones with captivating glow-in-the-dark qualities. The number 23—a symbol of Michael Jordan—comes embroidered in Chinese characters near the co-branded logos at the rear, which is then further emphasized by jade beads that are thoughtfully arranged into twos and threes on the lace stays. The iconic shark teeth detailing on the air-assisted midsole, on the other hand, appears in a speckled metallic silver that stands out from the rest of the colorway.

Once believed to provide wearers with protection and luck, jade adornments were traditionally worn with red strings. Carrying on this sentiment, red-color elements—from the sockliner, reflective lace to the Jumpman logo on the tongue and details on co-branded insole pattern—punctuate the design, completing this modern-day jade accessory for the new generations. To literally wrap it all up, each pair of CLOT x AIR JORDAN “JADE 5 LOW” shall come with a special box bearing the color and pattern of jade.

Extending the idea of carrying on the artistic heritage of Chinese jade and cultural legacy of Michael Jordan, the brands have also created a capsule collection that will launch alongside the CLOT x AIR JORDAN “JADE 5 LOW”. The collection of T-shirt, hoodie and sweatpants all feature elements inspired by traditional Chinese jade accessories, dropping as contemporary renditions of the age-old ornament.
